C-GYVN is a 1967 Piper Cherokee 140.
I purchased this plane from a fellow in Elkhorn, MB in September 2002. At the time it had 2950 hours on the airframe. This aircraft is powered by a 150 horsepower Lycoming 0320. GYVN came with the original radio and transponder "A". I had these immediately replaced with two KY97A VHF Comms & a four place intercom, KT76A Transponder & mode "C", KMA20 Audio Panel, and a KLN89B GPS system. The stack turned out a bit more than I wanted to spend at the time, however I have comfortably enjoyed this modification everytime I take her up.
I have flown the Cherokee twice to Arnprior, ON and enjoyed the long trips with this plane. Having completed all my training in high wings, I quickly learned just how forgiving the Cherokee can be. I found that it handled crosswinds a lot easier than the high wings I trained in. One other noticeable difference is the much smaller wing area on the Cherokee does not allow for the endless glide on final approach, it will sometimes sink fast and may require some power on final. I have only flown about 120 hours on this Cherokee and I am looking forward to many more years of flying with my GYVN. Norm Leray [ TOP ] |
