SOD TURNING AT LYNCREST AIRPORT

The Springfield Flying Club, located in the RM of Springfield at Lyncrest Airport, 57119 Murdock Road, is pleased to announce construction of the new Lyncrest Flight Centre began on Wednesday, September 24th. The official ground turning ceremony started at 10:00 AM. Tony Anjos and his crew from Provincial Piling Ltd. coordinated the drilling and pouring of the 22 concrete piles, which will become the strong foundation of a new, energy efficient building. The Oakbank Co-op and Anola Building Supply are the main suppliers of materials. Local journeymen, including Don Enns and Burt Barkman (plumbing), Gary Smith (Standard Electrical), Adrian Meilleur (Airstream Heating & Air Conditioning) and over 80 volunteers from the RM are working together on this community project. The Manitoba Government's Community Places and Community Services programs, Robinson Lighting and Plumbing, Paramount Windows, Prairie Truss, RM of Springfield, pilots, and the community at large are gratefully acknowledged for funding and donated materials or labour! The new Lyncrest Flight Centre will provide the infrastructure needed to support recreational aviation and the RM of Springfield, making this municipality the focal point for recreational aviation in the region.

Lyncrest Flight Center Sep08 Lyncrest Airport has become a centre of excellence for recreational aviation activities, such as the internationally acclaimed EAA Young Eagles program that provides children aged 8 through 17 with the opportunity to experience their first flight in a light aircraft, plus numerous other aviation-related educational and social events. This past weekend over 65 youth, many from the RM of Springfield, went flying for the first time!
